Juarez-Lincoln High School welcomed students and parents to their Advanced Placement Information Session this past Thursday. Dozens of students escorted their parents in to the cafeteria with one goal in mind –getting information about AP and Pre-AP course offerings for the 2016-2017 school year.
"I was able to bring my mom and it really helped her understand what the classes are about and why they are a good option for me," said Raul Urbina, a freshman at JLHS.
The College Board’s Advanced Placement program enables students to pursue college-level studies, be part of classed with added rigor, learn in cooperative and interactive environment, while at the same time being able to earn college credit or advanced placement.
Getting this information before the new school year has also allowed students to not only get informed and share the information, but also cement their goals and schedule for the coming years.
"I'm up for the challenge, and I think it's going to be a good thing for me. I just need to change one last class for my schedule for next year, plus, I know what I'll take next year too," said Urbina.
The faculty and staff at JLHS are committed to empowering every student to achieve their potential, AP courses are just one way it is being done. With eighty-five percent of selective colleges and universities report that AP experience favorably impact admission decisions, this a valuable experience for our students.
