Hour of Code at JLHS

By Carlos Garza

After continuous planning, Juarez-Lincoln High School (JLHS) participated in LJISD’s initiative called Hour of Code. The purpose was to promote Computer Science Education. This is the second year JLHS has participated.

Why the Hour of Code?

Students were exposed to the many job opportunities that go unfulfilled in the Computer Science fields. Many of JLHS students participated in the Hour of Code, and some teacher received a $10 gift card for participating.
In preparation for the Hour of Code, three Juarez-Lincoln High School students took the Think It Up challenge. As a result Joel, Jesus, and Joshua were recently mentioned in a DonorshChoose.org article by Emilia Murphy. She explains how Student-Led Projects inspire JLHS students to sharpen their problem solving skills (under the heading “Coding For The Future”).
